Out of network and private pay cost is $140/session

Session fees are determined by your specific insurance plan, and may also depend on whether or not you have met your deductible and the cost of your copay.

I am able to provide superbills for those with out-of-network insurance plans. I also accept self-pay clients so you are welcome to use or opt-out of using insurance at any time.

If you would like to be proactive, you can check you coverage carefully by calling the number on the back of your card and asking the following questions:

  • Do I have mental health benefits?

  • What is my deductible and has it been met?

  • How many sessions per year does my health insurance allow?

  • What is my co-pay?

Frequently Asked Questions

This is my first time seeking therapy. How does it work?

It takes courage and strength to be here, so welcome! You can connect with us through email, call, or text to schedule a complementary phone consultation. In this call, we’ll learn more about each other and your goals for therapy. You will also be able to ask questions about rates, insurance, and any other logistics you’d like clarification on. If we decide that we are a good fit and you would like to proceed with working together, the next steps will be completing intake paperwork sent to you via email through a secure client portal called Simple Practice.

How long are sessions?

Most therapy sessions are around 50 minutes. If for some reason you will be late to your virtual appointment, please communicate with your therapist so we can plan accordingly.

How will we meet?

I currently offer telehealth therapy appointments on Mondays and Wednesdays and in-person appointments on Fridays. However, Friday appointments are prioritized for kids and teen clients.

Is virtual therapy as effective as in-person therapy?

The simple answer is yes! Since COVID, virtual meetings have become a norm in our daily lives. And, because of the convenience they afford, it’s likely to stay that way. There are numerous benefits to online therapy, particularly for those who work from home, have children and/or busy schedules, are COVID-conscious, live in a rural area, or value increased privacy (and the list goes on)! Thanks to a variety of new and innovative technologies, EMDR can be just as effective online as well.

How long will I be in therapy?

This is different for everyone. For some individuals, a few sessions is all it takes. For others, deep exploration and healing might occur over the span of several months or longer. We’re an open door practice and see many of our clients over the course of years, as they face the different challenges that come up in adult life.

What can I expect from therapy for my child?

When you reach out about therapy for your child, we will set up a short phone call to explore what you are looking for and if I would be a good fit. Then, we will schedule a parent intake session, where we will discuss your child, family history, and goals for therapy. Following this will be your child’s first session. A parent’s role is critical in the therapy process, so you can expect to be involved in your child’s treatment. Usually, this will include having intermittent parent check ins and/or parent sessions.

What should I tell my child about therapy?

When talking to kids about therapy, I encourage openness around the process but in a way your child will understand. I will usually say something like, “Kate is a feelings helper. With Kate, you are going to have your very own special play time to do whatever you need to do to feel great. The place where you are going has a room full of toys and you get to play with whatever you want. I also met Kate and she is really nice and loves to play with kids.”

Policy regarding child therapy & litigations:

When working with a child as the child’s therapist, I DO NOT and will NOT take on a second role, such as the court evaluator, parent therapist, mediator, or expert witness for either parent. If you are involved in divorce or custody litigation, my role as a therapist is not to make recommendations to the court concerning custody or parenting issues as I’m not a CFI (Child & Family Investigator) or PRE (Parental Responsibilities Evaluator).

What is your cancellation policy?

If you are unable to attend a therapy appointment, please make sure you cancel at least 24 hours beforehand. In the event of a no-show or late-cancellation within the 24 hour window, you will be charged the full amount of the missed session or a flat fee of $100 if you are using insurance.

How does billing work?

I utilize Headway and Collective Counseling Solutions for billing purposes. Depending on your insurance, I may use one over the other. Due to this, your client portal through Simple Practice will likely say ‘Collective Counseling Solutions’ instead of Bright Connections Counseling.
